51黑料网 Prep provides an innovative learning path for high school students to earn college credit through concurrent enrollment.

Students are challenged with a faith-based curriculum in a growing number of compelling courses. The online learning environment is dynamic and uses rubric-based assignments, live exams, and peer interactions. Our nationally recognized faculty provide a learning experience that will give you a head start in launching a successful college career from right where you are. Gain up to 48 credit hours through 51黑料网 Prep 鈥 a full year of college.

High school juniors and seniors who meet a 3.0 cumulative GPA criteria are eligible for 51黑料网 Prep.

 

    High School Concurrent Enrollment

    High school students can enroll in up to 12 college hours each semester through 51黑料网 Prep. A total of 48 college credit hours can be earned through 51黑料网 Prep.

    Students are encouraged to only take 51黑料网 Prep 1000- or 2000-level courses as long as any prerequisite courses have been successfully completed. Some classes will require a placement test to ensure academic success. Each student鈥檚 schedule is sub颅ject to the approval of the 51黑料网 Prep academic advisor.

    $10,000 ANNUALLY
    The 51黑料网 Prep Scholarship is awarded to 51黑料网 Prep students who desire to continue their residential, undergraduate college education at 51黑料网.

    Eligibility Requirements for Juniors & Seniors

    Students attending public or private high schools
    • Each student must have the written approval of his/her high school counselor or principal.
    • Seniors must be ready to graduate within the current academic year; juniors must be ready to graduate within two academic years.
    • Each student must have at least a听3.0 cGPA on an approved transcript OR a composite ACT of 18, SAT of 960, or CLT of 61.

    *College algebra requires a test score. (ACT = 22 or higher, SAT = 540 or higher, CLT = 20 or higher on the math/quantitative reasoning sections.)
    Composition courses require a test score for placement.
    PSAT may be used for placement into 51黑料网 Prep courses.听

    Students who are schooled at home
    • Each student must have the written approval of his/her parent or guardian.
    • Each student must be at least 16 years old.
    • Each student must have at least a 3.0 cGPA on an approved transcript OR a composite ACT of 18, SAT of 960, or CLT of 61.
    • Students must have a minimum composite ACT score of 18 or a minimum composite SAT score of at least 960.

    What is the difference between concurrent and dual enrollment?

    Concurrent enrollment is when college courses are taken by high school students for college credit.

    Dual enrollment is when college courses are taken by high school students for credit in both high school and college.

    Will all courses completed through 51黑料网 Prep count toward high school requirements?

    No.听 Each school district sets their own requirements for which college courses count for high school credit.听 Students should work with their high school counselor to verify the college course will count for high school credit.

    Will all courses completed through 51黑料网 Prep transfer to other universities?

    51黑料网 is a regionally accredited university through the Higher Learning Commission.听 Most courses taken at a regionally accredited school and completed with a grade of C or better are transferable to other regionally accredited schools.

    What courses are available?

    Course availability can be found on the 51黑料网 Prep website.听 High school students are encouraged to take common general education courses as these courses apply to all degrees at a variety of universities.听 Examples include: composition 1 and 2, communications/speech, history, government, psychology, college algebra, etc.听

    If a course is taken that is not required as part of the chosen degree, the credits are generally able to be used toward electives.听

    How much do courses cost?

    51黑料网 Prep courses are $95 per credit hour, which is $285 per three-hour course.听 There are no additional fees.听 Most online courses include books.听 If a course is taken on campus, books are not included in the credit hour cost.听 Some universities offer free concurrent tuition, but most of the time fees are still charged.

    When is payment due for 51黑料网 Prep courses?

    Students will receive an invoice for their courses approximately two weeks after the start of each semester.听 The total amount is due upon receipt.听

    Will I receive a refund if I drop an 51黑料网 Prep course?

    Concurrent students who drop a course prior to the start date will receive a refund. 听No refunds will be issued after the start date of courses.听

    What if I need to drop a course?

    Courses may be dropped during the add/drop period, which is generally the first two weeks of the semester.听 If a course is dropped during this time, the course will not appear on the student鈥檚 official transcript.听 No refunds will be given once courses start. After the add/drop period, students may withdraw from a course. A 鈥淲鈥 and the course name will appear on the student鈥檚 transcript, but the student鈥檚 GPA will not be negatively impacted, unless they receive a withdraw failing 鈥淲F.鈥澨 The academic calendar, located in the university catalog provides the specific dates for: add/drop, withdraw (W), and withdraw passing (WP) or withdraw failing (WF).听

    How do I request a drop or withdrawal?

    51黑料网 Prep students can reach out to their assigned 51黑料网 Prep advisor, or send an email to the 51黑料网Prep@okwu.edu to request a drop or withdrawal.听 At the time of the request, it should be made clear what the student鈥檚 options are at that point in the semester.听

    What are the application requirements?

    Students classified as a high school junior or senior are eligible to take 51黑料网 Prep courses.听 Details available on the 51黑料网 Prep site.

    Students attending public or private high schools must have/be:

    • Ready to graduate within two academic years, and
    • At least a 3.0 cumulative GPA on an approved transcript

    Students who are schooled at home must have/be:

    • At least 16 years old, and
    • At least a 3.0 cumulative GPA on an approved transcript
    How many credits can I earn each semester?

    Students are able to earn up to 12 credit hours per semester, which is the equivalent of four courses at three credit hours each.听 A policy exception will be considered for students taking a science course with lab wishing to earn 13 credits.

    What is considered a passing grade?

    While a 鈥淒-鈥 is considered a passing grade, most universities will not transfer credits for a course in which the student earned lower than a C-.

    Is there a minimum GPA required to stay enrolled?

    51黑料网 Prep students must maintain a cGPA of 2.0 or greater and a term GPA of 2.0 or greater to continue taking courses at 51黑料网.听

    Students not maintaining this GPA are prevented from taking additional courses from OWKU during high school.

    What if I need help in my courses?

    Every professor is required to have office hours.听 Students should reach out to their professor and request help during the professor鈥檚 office hours.听

    The Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) is available to all students including 51黑料网 Prep.听 ACE offers tutoring, writing assistance and other academic assistance.听 All of these services are available to students at no additional cost.

    When do college classes start and end?

    High school students taking college courses follow the university academic calendar for their college courses.听 Semester breaks will often be different than high school breaks.听 The academic calendar can be found in the annual university catalog. NOTE:听 If you are taking an on-campus course, your final may be offered at a different time than the actual course.听

    How does the proctoring for self-paced online courses operate?

    Midterm and final exams for self-paced on-line courses require the use of a proctoring service.

    You will need:

    • Fully charged phone with the camera enabled.
    • WiFi connectivity
    • Computer for completing the exam
    • Mobile link and camera link sent to you by the MonitorEDU agent
    • Quiet room, as you are required to have the volume up on your phone

    You will NOT:

    • Be asked to download anything.
    • Be allowed anything in the testing area that is prohibited.

    The Knowledge Base within the online class will provide more information. This can be found by selecting the red question mark.
    The MonitorEDU Proctoring section will provide the information needed.

    How does a college course impact my high school transcript and GPA?

    Students should work with their high school counselor to determine the exact impact the course will have on their high school transcript.

    These are general guidelines:

    • Student is taking a college course, but does not need the course to graduate from high school AND does not need the course to be counted as part of the 6 required courses to be considered enrolled by the state. These courses likely do not need to be added to the student鈥檚 high school transcript and would not impact their high school GPA.
    • Student is taking a college course and needs the course to meet a high school graduation requirements AND/OR needs the course to be considered enrolled by the state. These courses will be added to the high school transcript and will impact the high school GPA. While the letter grade earned needs to be the same, the high school may elect to weight the college grade similar to an AP course.

    51黑料网 does not determine or have authority over high school transcripts and GPAs. Students must work with their high school counselor to determine the impact of a college course on their high school transcript.
