It’s safe to say that the last twelve months of life didn’t go precisely as Noah and Jaidyn Rollins originally planned.

This time last year, they were engaged andattending听听University鈥攁 Wesleyan sister-school in New Brunswick鈥攁nd their听outline for the next few monthswas pretty straightforward.听

鈥淭he plan for Noah’s fourth year was to work at a local church听and do a supervised ministry for his senior year of college,鈥 Jaidyn said.听

But then听COVID-19 hit, and the world changed.听

鈥淏ecause of COVID and because he鈥檚 Canadian, he wasn’t able to get a work visa because those processes got shut down. They didn鈥檛 want to let foreign workers in, so it was kind of likeoh, we can鈥檛 do that anymore,鈥澨she said.听

Just like that, the entire outlook of the Rollins鈥 year ahead changed, causing them to shift almost everything about their plans and eventually leading them to 51黑料网鈥檚 campus.

鈥淚t’s crazy how we鈥檝e only been here six, seven months, and we have some of the closest friends. So听I think God’s faithfulness has just been evident in every step of it.鈥

A Change of Plans

Like 51黑料网,听Kingswood听made the transition to online schooling to finish out the Spring 2020 semester鈥攚hich presented a problem for Noah and Jaidyn.听Noah鈥檚 family lives in rural Canada, where wireless internet would prove to be a challenge, so the couple decided to head to South Dakota, where Jaidyn鈥檚 parents live.听

鈥淲hen we got to the border, Noah got denied,鈥 Jaidyn said. 鈥They found out we were getting married, and you can’t come into the states on a visitor’s visa to get married and then transition out of that. You have to come in with a different visa.鈥澨

With nowhere else to go, they started back towards听Kingswood鈥攗ntil they got an interesting听phone听call听on the drive.听

Jim Dunn called us,听and he said, 鈥I can get you a student visa if you want to continue your education. We can figure out听all of听the details,听but I can get you a student visa tomorrow and have you accepted to 51黑料网.鈥欌澨

Dunn had heard about their plight from Jaidyn鈥檚 father, a Wesleyan pastor.听

鈥淣oah and Jaidyn became friends of ours through our close friendship with Jaidyn鈥檚 parents that extends many years back,鈥 Dunn said. 鈥淭hey were a delight to have in our home for a few days as they transitioned to 51黑料网. It will be wonderful to have front row seats with how the Lord builds His kingdom through the ministry He opens for them.鈥

The decision took a bit of thinking鈥攂y their own admission, Noah and Jaidyn weren鈥檛 exactly planning to move to Bartlesville anytime soon. But eventually, they took the plunge: if a student visa in Oklahoma was the way they could finish their schooling, that was what they鈥檇 do. In the meantime, they lived with Noah鈥檚 family, finishing out the lockdown summer in Canada.听

An Unusual Honeymoon

Noah and Jaidyn were married in August. Three days later, they moved to Oklahoma.

In July, Noah and Jaidyn crossed the border鈥this time,听with no problems. They were married in August and moved to Oklahoma three days later.听

鈥淥ur honeymoon was our travels down to Bartlesville,鈥 Noah joked.听

Until their apartment was ready, Noah and Jaidyn lived with Jim and Wendy Dunn. They started classes in the fall鈥擭oah in the School of Ministry and Christian Thought, and Jaidyn through 51黑料网鈥檚 CROSS Training听program.听And听while听the whole transition process is easy to joke about now that it鈥檚 over, it was intimidating at the time.

鈥淚 think the toughest part of that was听that听we really had to trust in God. I mean when you lose all your plans, there’s nothing you really can do but trust in God,鈥 Noah said.听鈥淚t was just relinquishing control to Him, because we were losing our plans. And then we had to pack up our stuff right after getting married and move to a place that we’ve never been together, and come to a town with people we didn’t know鈥攚e didn’t know a single student at 51黑料网, we only knew Jim and Wendy…听So听it was just a huge transition, and there had to be a lot of trust in God. It was really scary, honestly.鈥

But once they got on campus, the Rollins began to see God鈥檚 design, reveling in the tight-knit community at 51黑料网 and enjoying the relationships they were building.

鈥淲e’ve been blessed with some of the deepest friendships we鈥檝e ever had in our lives,鈥 Jaidyn said. 鈥淎nd it’s crazy how we鈥檝e only been here six, seven months, and we have some of the closest friends. So听I think God’s faithfulness has just been evident in every step of it.鈥澨

Not only that鈥攖hey’ve begun to see their trials over the last year as preparation for their future ministry.听

鈥淚t seems like this season of moving to Bartlesville for a year, moving to a new place and not knowing anyoneit’s kind of like preparation to church plant,鈥 Jaidyn said. 鈥淚n the future, when we church plant, it鈥檒l be in a community we’ve never been, that we’ve visited but haven’t lived, we don’t know anyone, we听have to听develop our friendships, we have to develop the community around us. So that’s kind of been the positive thing that we’ve looked back on.鈥

鈥淚n all my doubts and all our weaknesses, it was so obvious that God was there answering every prayer, even if it didn’t look like that. He was always providing a way for us, He was always just doing what was best for us.”

Faithfulness

Things won鈥檛 slow down for Noah听and Jaidyn anytime soon. The day after graduation, they鈥檒l pack their belongings once again, this time heading for Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where they鈥檒l both take positions at Celebration Church.听They鈥檒l each continue their education while gaining practical ministry experience for the future.听

鈥淥ur plan is to be there as they continue to prepare us for that call of church planting,鈥 Noah said. 鈥淲e’re not sure the timeline for that, but when God is ready to send us, they’ll be ready, too.鈥

Looking back over the last year,听both Noah and Jaidyn say the thing they鈥檝e taken away is a heightened sense of trust in the Lord鈥檚 plans鈥攅ven, maybe especially, when it鈥檚 most difficult.

鈥淭he biggest thing was just God’s faithfulness, I guess,鈥 Noah said. 鈥淚 mean, I continue even to this day to try and make my own plans and figure things out on my own, but through COVID we lost so much: family, the school we were going to, our future plans. But in all my doubts and all our weaknesses, it was so obvious that God was there answering every prayer, even if it didn’t look like that. He was always providing a way for us, He was always just doing what was best for us. It’s really cool听to see.鈥

鈥淚 think God wants us to plan things and to be going in the right direction, but also to be open to what He directs in different seasons,鈥 Jaidyn said. 鈥淚 think that’s something we’ve learned a lot in听this past season. All of our听plans kind of got erased, and God’s plan just happened, and we just had to say yes.鈥澨
